COVID-19 Support for clients and their loved ones

20 April, 2020

Focus Care launches a Protection Initiative and a new range of COVID-19 support services aimed at protecting clients and staff.

Focus Care is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for our clients.

We understand that the current coronavirus outbreak is a cause for concern, especially for older people or people with disabilities requiring support.

Being in contact with other people can cause anxiety during this time, but there are steps that Focus is taking to minimise our risk. Our priority is your health and well-being, and so we are following the World Health Organisation guidelines to protect both staff and clients. We will also regularly check for updates from NSW Health to implement their recommendations and requirements.

Our Protection Initiative

Focus is taking this matter seriously, and we are going to great lengths to educate and support our staff. The following steps have been taken to ensure that we are reducing the risks as much as possible:

  • Any support worker that has travelled since November 2019 has been contacted and assessed by our HR department.

  • Each support worker has completed a Hand Washing competency.

  • Each support worker is provided with Personal Protection Equipment, including gloves, hand sanitiser, foot covers, face masks and aprons.

  • Each support worker has been reminded to wash their hands immediately at the beginning of every shift, and after.

In addition to this, we have recommended the following guidelines to all staff, which we encourage you to also follow to keep yourself safe.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds or regularly use hand sanitisers

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, as this is the way that the infection spreads

  • Regularly wipe down surfaces in the home with a household cleaning spray or wipe

  • Avoid situations where you may be in close contact with lots of people e.g. public transport, shopping centres

  • If you are unwell, please phone your GP to discuss your symptoms, or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080.

  • Immediately contact us on 1300 941 750 if you notice any changes to your health or if you suspect that you might have been in contact with an infected person.

  • Healthdirect Australia has developed a COVID Symptom Checker – an online self-guided tool which lets you know if and when you need to seek medical help. Please follow the link to the questionnaire if you are concerned about your symptoms.

We are monitoring developments and will keep you informed as new and important information comes to light.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding upcoming services, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 1300 941 750.
